After a relatively quiet offseason on the transfer market, New York City FC are reportedly set to make some noise with the addition of Ecuadorian winger Joao Rojas.

NYCFC, whose biggest moves in the offseason have been out outbound with the departures of midfielder Alex Ring to Austin FC, left back Ronald Matarrita to FC Cincinnati — acquiring nearly $2 million in allocation money from both trades — and winger Gary Mackay-Steven returning to Scotland, signing with Hearts, are signing Rojas from Ecuador’s Club Sport Emelec, according to journalist Reinaldo Romero.

The 23-year-old Rojas was linked to an unnamed MLS team back in December, with additional offers reportedly coming from Spain and Mexico. Rojas, who primarily plays as a left winger, joined Emelec on a year-long loan from SD Aucas in Jan. 2017 before finalizing his move a little more than a year later.

He’s scored 15 goals and set up 17 others in 105 appearances in all competitions for Emelec.

Rojas began his professional career with SD Aucas, where he had seven goals in 62 appearances, after coming up through the Independiente del Valle U-20 setup.
