Six games on the NHL schedule for Sunday, including some matinees. March has been a very busy month for most every team, and we may start to see some taxi squad guys start to play more. That’s why the league expanded the rosters for the season, to give guys some rest.

Pick 1: Avalanche moneyline

The Colorado Avalanche have a reputation as a high-flying, offensive team. And the Avs can be that way. But Colorado actually is leading the league in fewest shots against per game at 24.5. That includes 15 straight games in which the Avs have held opponents to 30 shots or fewer. The Kings called off practice in Denver Saturday because coach Todd McLellan said some guys woke up “not feeling good,” though he said he didn’t think it was COVID-related. Take the Avs here on the moneyline.

Pick 2: Coyotes moneyline

I smell a minor upset here. The Arizona Coyotes have been badly outplayed the past two games, so I think a rebound game is likely. The Coyotes will be without No. 1 goalie Darcy Kuemper for a while, so it’s up to Antti Raanta to keep them in the playoff hunt. Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet will have his team ready for a good road game here. The Wild are hot, but I see Arizona pulling out an underdog win on the moneyline.

Islanders moneyline

I’m just going to keep riding the Islanders for as long as this streak lasts, especially when the oddsmakers are still being pretty generous. I locked in a -162 on the moneyline for this one. I’ll take that for a team that is 9-0-1 in its last 10. The Islanders did suffer a loss the other night with the lower-body injury that figures to keep captain Anders Lee out a while. But I think they’ll weather that OK, especially against the mediocre Devils.
