Trump Organization hires criminal defense lawyer for Manhattan DA probe

The Trump Organization has hired a veteran criminal defense attorney to represent it in the Manhattan district attorney’s intensifying investigation into the former president’s company and his business dealings.

Ronald Fischetti, who’s long practiced criminal law in New York City, was hired by the company earlier this week, said Alan Futerfas, another attorney for the Trump Organization.

“I am so pleased that Ron has been added to the team,” Futerfas said in a statement Wednesday. “He brings extraordinary experience, a depth of knowledge and wisdom that is invaluable and that we so appreciate.”

Fischetti echoed Futeras’ sentiment. “I’m delighted that I’m going to be on the defense of this,” he said.

The 84-year-old Fischetti, whose hire was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, has a tantalizing connection to Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr.’s team.

He used to be the law partner of Mark Pomerantz, a former mob-busting federal prosecutor who was recently hired by Vance to help him investigate Trump’s company.

Vance is investigating Trump and his business associates over a range of alleged bank, insurance and tax fraud. Trump has not been formally accused of any wrongdoing and claims Vance’s investigation is politically motivated.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s criminally convicted former personal attorney, has been a key cooperator in Vance’s probe.

Now one of Trump’s fiercest critics, Cohen offered uncharacteristic praise for the Fischetti hire.

“Trump and the Trump Organization were well advised in retaining Mr. Fischetti, a seasoned and well respected criminal defense attorney,” Cohen, who’s serving a three-year prison sentence in home confinement, told the Daily News in a text.

“Unfortunately for Trump, the truth is the truth regardless of who the lawyer is representing the party.”
